Dear Members, Colleagues and Friends of HKCNDP,
Bringing together two subspecialties of Developmental and Behavioural Paediatrics (DBP) and Paediatric Neurology (PN), HKCNDP was officially inaugurated in 1994. We have both medical and allied health professionals as our members. For over twenty years, we uphold the professional standards of both subspecialties, bring forth new advancement and knowledge, step forward as advocacy for children with developmental / neurological disorders and act as bridge for interdisciplinary collaborations. The Society also established international linkage and maintains active communication with overseas experts in knowledge, expertise and fraternity. All these credits should go to our immediate past president, Dr. Chok-wan CHAN and members of the HKCNDP Council, past and present. To name some landmark achievements, we have:
1. Annual scientific meetings organized, with over 20 prominent overseas speakers invited as course directors;
2. Organized “International Conference on Developmental Dyslexia for Children using the Chinese Language" in Hong Kong in October 2002;
3. Society’s official publication “BrainChild”, “Manual on Child Neurology” and “Manual of Developmental Paediatrics”;
4. Position Papers on Specific Learning Disorders (SLD) in 2006 and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in 2007;
5. Advocacy activities on timely issues, such as myoblast transfer in Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, iodization of table salts in Hong Kong, Statements on Children with Special Education Needs, Children’s Commission, etc.
With the accreditation of DBP and PN under the Hong Kong College of Paediatricians, our Society will continue to shoulder the responsibilities in training and promotion of unity for the two subspecialties as they often share common ground in terms of patient groups and disease natures. To advocate for children with DBP or PN problems, which is sometimes viewed as “minority”, our Society looks forward to your unfailing support for making a single but strong voice for the best interest of these children. Fraternity is a virtue among health professionals, HKCNDP will play its role as bridge between private and public sectors and provide platform for knowledge exchange and service collaborations.
I look forward to meeting you all in our meetings, namely bimonthly scientific meeting, child neurology conference and neurodevelopmental conferences, which are held almost monthly. You are also welcome to visit our website regularly in which you will find exciting information related to our Society, including meeting announcement, publications and lecture handouts. We treasure a lot your opinions and please feel free to contact us for any comments and suggestions.
I wish you every success in your work and best of health!
Dr. Kwing-wan TSUI
President of HKCNDP
