About Our Society

Our Society was inaugurated in Hong Kong in 1994 by a group of professionals consisting of medical doctors, nurses, psychologists, allied health professionals, social workers, special teachers and other professionals dedicated to the advancement of knowledge, betterment of services, enhancement of health education and promotion of advocacy for the paediatric subspecialties of Child Neurology (CN) and Developmental Paediatrics (DP).

Over the first sixteen years, we are proud to present a significant array of achievements in terms of scientific activities in the form of regular Clinical Conferences, Annual Scientific Meetings, Ad-hoc Lectures on Special Issues, our official publication the "Brainchild", two Manuals on CN and on DP each and Position Papers on Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD)/Dyslexia 2006 and Attention Deficit Disorders (ADHD) 2007.

We have also launched powerful advocacy activities on issues including SLD/Dyslexia, ADHD and ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorders) focusing on Conventional as well as Complementary and Alternative Management (CAM) of these conditions exploring the scientific and evidence bases for such treatment regimes and their physical, chemical, mental, financial and other potential adverse effects, so as to present unbiased data to enable parents and clients to make their own informed decisions. We also submitted Statements to the Hong Kong SAR Government for policy formulation including the Child Development Fund (CDF) and the Comprehensive Child Development Services (CCDS). Outside Hong Kong, we are members of international professional bodies on CN and DP and we are instrumental in the formation of the Joint Working Group for DP in the Chinese speaking regions including Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, the Mainland of China and Singapore with the objectives of bringing the CN and DP to new horizons of success. We are committed to the ultimate goal of Healthy Children for Healthy World!
